Twenty-three years of exhibitions in the heart of the goldfields
Falkner Gallery was a fixture of Castlemaine's art life for more than two decades — 184 exhibitions of contemporary painting, printmaking, sculpture and studio craft, with a particular commitment to the artists of central Victoria. The gallery closed its doors in 2024. This site preserves its record: the artists it represented, the exhibitions it staged, and the stories it told along the way.

The gallery
From its opening in 2001, Falkner Gallery showed local and interstate artists side by side — established printmakers and painters alongside first-time exhibitors — and became one of the reasons Castlemaine grew into a destination for art in regional Victoria. The gallery's program ran to ten or more shows a year, together with consignment works from the many artists it represented between exhibitions.
